The project brings together partners from both sides of the border with the aim to further develop the Amazon of Europe cycling route by strengthening tourism infrastructure and services, promoting shared cultural and natural heritage, and increasing the visibility of the cross-border destination.
Varaždin County, as one of 12 project partners from Croatia and Hungary, continues to invest in developing cycle tourism. As part of the project, the Visitor Center located in the County Palace will be further equipped and enriched with new content, focusing on the connection between cultural-historical heritage and active tourism, with special emphasis on cycle tourists. Interactive and educational content will provide a more complete and quality destination experience.
The project lead partner is the Pannon EGTC (European Grouping for Territorial Cooperation Pannon), while the Varaždin County Tourist Board will play an important advisory and promotional role throughout all project phases.
The total value of the project is 4,000,000.02 euros from the Cross-Border Cooperation Program Hungary-Croatia 2021-2027, out of which co-financing for 80% of the acceptable project costs has been ensured. For the implementation of the project activities, Varaždin County will have 437,875.00 euros at disposal, out of which 80% refers to EU funds, and the rest is provided from the County budget.
The Amazon of Europe BT HU-HR project is an important step towards the sustainable and integrated development of cross-border tourism based on regional natural beauty and cultural heritage.
